Meditation Group (or something like it)

Deborah Barlow, "Reflectivity"

We meet at the Won Institute in Glenside, Pennsylvania on Monday evenings from 7:00-8:30 p.m. The session includes silent sitting and a discussion.

Beginners welcome!

Our practice is founded on simplicity: we sit in stillness, silence, and
attentiveness. Attentive to what? Wallace Stevens has an answer:

For the listener, who listens in the snow sitting,
And, nothing himself, beholds
Nothing that is not there and the nothing that is.

That's all, really. When it comes time to speak, we employ many different conceptual frameworks to help clarify our lives. Our approach is non-religious and non-sectarian. It aims to be relevant to contemporary life.

The purpose of the group is simply to create an environment that fosters stillness, silence, and attentiveness. This environment includes a sparse meeting space, brief, bare-bones guided meditation instructions for beginners, and a group of people who practice with care. All levels of experience are welcome.

So, if you are interested in learning about, or deepening, your sitting practice, please join us. Just bring yourself. Everything is provided. Wear comfortable clothing. We are well-suited to beginners. If it's your first time visiting our group, please let the facilitator know so that he/she can help make you comfortable.

Our meditation hall is located in the Won Institute of Graduate Studies, 137 South Easton Road, Glenside, PA 19038. Telephone: 215-884-8942. For directions to the Institute, please visit the location page.
